3D Reconstruction, Digital Twinning, and Virtual Reality: Architectural Heritage Applications
Virtual Reality proposes different innovative solutions for the fruition of tangible, intangible, or no longer existing Cultural Heritage. The representation of architectural artifacts through virtual 3D models framed in immersive and interactive virtual environments allows building new paths of knowledge. This kind of narrative feeds the fruition, the understanding, and the involvement of the user. The article presents different examples of VR applied in the CH field, highlighting the VR capacities, foreshadowing possible future developments in the specific domain. The first case study describes the reconstructive digital modeling and the prototype application of VR aimed at rendering the interior space of the provisional hall of the First Italian Parliament, no longer existing, for the use of visitors to Palazzo Carignano in Turin. The second case study concerns the Charterhouse of Pisa in Calci and deals with two VR experiences realized for a new visit tour: 3D reconstruction of the illusory space depicted in a quadraturist frescoes and 3D representation of the layout of the cloister in its most important historical phases. The third case study deals with the reconstruction of the Cathedral of Carpi through a 3D interoperable BIM model and the new communication tool called “during time Digital Twin”, which uses a combination of VR and AR

Mir-34a-5p Mediates Cross-Talk between M2 Muscarinic Receptors and Notch-1/EGFR Pathways in U87MG Glioblastoma Cells: Implication in Cell Proliferation
Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most aggressive human brain tumor. The high growth potential and decreased susceptibility to apoptosis of the glioma cells is mainly dependent on genetic amplifications or mutations of oncogenic or pro-apoptotic genes, respectively. We have previously shown that the activation of the M2 acetylcholine muscarinic receptors inhibited cell proliferation and induced apoptosis in two GBM cell lines and cancer stem cells. The aim of this study was to delve into the molecular mechanisms underlying the M2-mediated cell proliferation arrest. Exploiting U87MG and U251MG cell lines as model systems, we evaluated the ability of M2 receptors to interfere with Notch-1 and EGFR pathways, whose activation promotes GBM proliferation. We demonstrated that the activation of M2 receptors, by agonist treatment, counteracted Notch and EGFR signaling, through different regulatory cascades depending, at least in part, on p53 status. Only in U87MG cells, which mimic p53-wild type GBMs, did M2 activation trigger a molecular circuitry involving p53, Notch-1, and the tumor suppressor mir-34a-5p. This regulatory module negatively controls Notch-1, which affects cell proliferation mainly through the Notch-1/EGFR axis. Our data highlighted, for the first time, a molecular circuitry that is deregulated in the p53 wild type GBM, based on the cross-talk between M2 receptor and the Notch-1/EGFR pathways, mediated by mir-34a-5p
Hyperlipidemias and dietary patterns: transversal study of japanese brazilians
This study aimed at evaluating the association between hyperlipidemia and dietary patterns of Japanese Brazilians with and without hypothyroidism from Bauru, city in the State of SĂŁo Paulo. We evaluated 1,330 individuals by means of demographic and dietary measurement, whom were gotten through standardized questionnaires previously tested. Clinical examination and laboratory data were anthropometry, blood pressure, fasting and 2-h glucose load, lipid profile and TSH and free T4. The chi-square and the odds ratio were used to evaluate associations between hyperlipidemia with studied variables. The prevalence of hyperlipidemia was 81.5% and it was associated with smokers, overweight, hypothyroid, hypertensive and glucose intolerants. We observed, in crude analysis, relationships with the presence of hyperlipidemia and fat saturated, oleic acid and dietary fiber from grains and cereals. After adjusting for the control variables, we observed relationships between hyperlipidemia (hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia) with habitual intake of total fat, oleic acid, saturated fat, trans fat, dietary fiber and alcohol. As a conclusion, changes in the style of life, particularly in the dietary habits, can improve lipidic profile and that lipids intake can be a risk factor for hyperlipidemia. Prospectives studies will help test the hypothesis in Japanese Brazilians from Bauru.
